A few weeks ago while shopping at Big Lots for items for the apt, I came across Babycakes Pie Pop Maker for $10! Since I’m a sucker for kitchen gadgets I bought it. I used the reason “It’s just me & Ry we don’t need a whole pie sitting around the apartment.” Little did I know how much I would use this machine.
At the end of the instructions there are a few recipes. As I was reading them to Riley, per his request, he decided that we needed to make grilled cheese pies. We actually happened to have some Goodbye Gluten gluten free bread so we got to work.
You have to roll the bread out thinner than it is before cutting out the little circles using the provided cutter. Riley loved helping. He rolled the bread out using a jar of pizza sauce since I realized the rolling pin was still at Dad’s. Flattening the bread and cutting out the circles was something he could easily do himself.
Pretty easy steps: bread, cheese, bread and close. I let them cook for right about 4 minutes. I just peaked on them here and there, stopping at 4 minutes. We mostly stopped because “they are tan enough I need to eat one.” said Riley.
The grilled cheese pies were so good. I’m not even a fan of grilled cheese and I find myself wanted more. Riley liked that the cheese stayed inside of it and wasn’t melted all over his plate.
Since we didn’t have much bread, we decided to try the pizza pop using corn tortillas. I microwaved 3 tortillas wrapped in a damp paper towel for 30 seconds first. That softened them up nicely which made cutting out the circles easier. We layered tortilla, pepperoni, cheese, pepperoni and then another tortilla. The tortillas being thinner than the bread seemed to crisp up quicker.
The next day we made cinnamon sugar pies and more pizza ones. The second batch of pizza pops were made using my pizza roll dough. The cinnamon sugar pies were so close to brown sugar cinnamon Poptarts. They will be getting a blog post here shortly.
I recommend the Babycakes Pie Pop Maker to anyone and everyone. The first weekend alone paid for the cost of this machine. And we’ve used it several times since.
